OAX / Ketron SD40 Upper Only

Now that we have looked at the physical and logical connections on OAX for MIDI let’s take the next step and connect an external device to OAX and play something. A simple example showing that we are able to play the Sonic upper keyboard and control chord changes in the Ketron style and also play a melody line with our right hand.

One of the Ketron default configurations will split the attached keyboard for you allowing the left hand to control the style section and the right hand to play a melody line.

So Curt, is there an audio output on the Ketron or is the sound playing through the MIDI connection and sounding through the Sonic?

Chuck – You are correct. The Ketron has audio outputs that we have connected to the audio inputs on the Sonic allowing everything to come through the Sonic sound system.

Remember MIDI does not carry any audio information. It does have information about what notes you are playing and what sounds you selected (along with a bunch of other info that we are not going to go into much detail on) as we move forward.
