OAS vs. OAX-1.x vs. OAX-2.0 Take 2

Let’s Do Another Tune to Compare!

We didn’t do an official count, but it looks like most folks preferred the sound of OAX 1.x over OAX 2.0 in our last compare. Let’s do another compare of OAS, OAX 1.x and OAX 2.0 using another MIDI file.

Just like last time – no changes were made to the MIDI file. Whatever sounds, volumes levels, etc. were in the MIDI file will be what you hear.

Amazing Grace OAS

Amazing Grace OAX 1.x

Amazing Grace OAX 2.0

Take a listen to all three samples above and post your thoughts below in the comments section.

    How about a “Blind test”?
Post another three samples but don’t tell us which versions of OAS or OAX they are, then let listeners choose their preferred sound.

I have been advised of an important note in the V2.0 Installation instructions:

Important note: If you have already modified the Sound Controllers in your Total Presets, you may have to adjust the presets you have already saved. This applies ONLY to the SOUND CONTROLLER and not to the MANUAL CONTROLLER.

I have been changing lots of settings in both controllers so I will now go and just change the sound controller.

Just done expect the flexibility of V1.51 as with V2.00 you only have 2 settings you can alter per sound with the other 4 being fixed, (The Attack & Decay just duplicate what is already available in the manual controllers) although I do like the idea of having fixed Bass & Treble controls. (Overall it is just a bad joke that’s best avoided)

Well that certainly concludes it, I’m heading back to the older version software. I also do not enjoy the sound quality of the latest update to the extent I have stop playing my OAX.

Has anyone reported this issue back to Wersi????????????????

I prefer OAX v1.x as well. I don’t own a Wersi but was considering it however with the problems from v2 and the fact that there is no (or very little) North American support, I don’t think I’ll be making that move. I have enough problems with my laptop and desktop computers and don’t want the same issues with my organ.

I agree that OAX 1 has a better sound.
However I would have liked to hear the same sequence through a Ketron.

Anyone else interested in that? We could take one of the MIDI files and give it a go on one of our Ketron units. If we get a couple of votes we can do that for the fun of it.

Well once again the V2.00 is so boring that you just want to drop off to sleep, however the V1.xx has a clarity that OAS just cannot muster no matter how you set it up, this combined with even more problems users are reporting with V2.00 (And after 2 months Wersi still don’t seem interested in fixing it) and it’s just becoming an unmitigated disaster that is best avoided.
Golden rule at the moment: Don’t upgrade to V2.00 (Stick with V1.51) and Don’t buy a new Wersi unless they supply it with V1.51 while they sort out the disaster they have produced with V2.00. (Or better still, go elsewhere)
